Descanso Front Entry Garden — La Cañada, CA

A horticultural feat and feast!

Started with the need to allocate brown reclaimed water, and perishing redwood trees, and a wonderful opportunity to collaboration with the Horticulture team at Descanso Gardens on botanical and horticultural best practices. Our impute and collaboration brought thought leadership to Descanso with the introduction of hugelkuture practices (giant composting mounds, building healthy soils, reclaiming natural on-site waste, increasing biodiversity, and sequestering carbon), using mostly California native plants, and met the requirements of minimal maintenance.

The result is dignified of a botanical institution, a true horticultural feat that is a very successful garden.
